Chicken species are now increasingly diverse, some are cultivated as livestock chickens and some are kept as ornamental chickens. Ornamental chickens have uniqueness found in their limbs, ranging from colors, types of feathers, shapes, to sounds that can steal attention. Here are some types of ornamental chickens:
- Sumatran Chicken
Sumatran chicken is a native Indonesian chicken that developed in West Sumatra. Sumatran chickens are unique because of their sturdy, stout stature, but small body size. Males have a small head but a wide throat. The beak of the Sumatran chicken is short, sturdy, black in color and the ears are red in color.
- Kate's chicken
Ayam Kate is a type of chicken that has a small body stature and short legs. Its uniqueness is that it can puff out its chest so that it looks dashing. In addition, there are also various other advantages such as the appearance of the cockscomb, and beautiful feathers.
- Polish Chicken
Originally from Rusia and has another name Black Poland. It is smooth black in color and has a bright red cockscomb. This chicken is a unique breed because it has a dense white and beautiful crest or crown feathers.
- Cotton Chicken
This type of ornamental chicken comes from China, has floating feathers that stand up so that it looks large from a distance. The color of the feathers is as white as cotton, just behind the comb there is a tuft that grows towards the back. The thick feathers that cover its body serve to protect from the cold.
- Green Forest Chicken
The uniqueness of the Green Forest Chicken lies in its elongated body shape with a shiny color. It has shiny green chest feathers with yellowish tips, long curved tail feathers and black color. Males have a length of about 70 cm, while females have a length of about 40 cm.
- Cochin Ornamental Chicken
Cochin chicken is a chicken that is widely cultivated in France. Its thick feathers to the toes make this chicken look like it is wearing shoes.
- Batik Chicken (Sebrict)
Although named batik chicken, this ornamental chicken is not from Indonesia, but native to Europe known as Sebrict. It is called Ayam Batik because it has carved feathers that look clear and neat like batik with fish scale motifs.
- Onagodari Chicken
Onagodari Chicken comes from Japan and has a pure white color. Its uniqueness is that its long tasseled tail can reach 1.5 meters, so it requires special care. This type of chicken is spoiled, because it will go on a hunger strike if given food that it is not used to eating.
