
Medion continues to innovate to meet the needs and become a solution for the world of animal husbandry and animal health. One of them is the condition of increasing demand for vaccines which has an impact on the increase in the need for SPF eggs (Specific Pathogen Free) as the main raw material which has so far been imported in large quantities and is not cheap. Seeing this, Medion through its business unit Livestock PT Damar Gayatri Jaya (DGJ), built an SPF egg production facility in Mekarjaya Village, Banjaran, Bandung Regency. DGJ is the first company in Indonesia to produce SPF chicken eggs in 2024, namely chicken eggs that are free from disease pathogens (according to the provisions European Pharmacopoeia) and was established in 2021.
The groundbreaking ceremony was carried out offline on Saturday, September 24, 2022, attended by Founder Medion Dr. (H.C.), apt. Drs. Jonas Jahja and Amalia Jonas, the ranks Medion's top management Medion, Director of Animal Health of the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. drh. Nuryani Zainuddin, M.Sc., Head of the Food Security & Livestock Service of West Java Province, Drs. H. M. Arifin Soedjayana, M.M., Head of the Livestock Service of Bandung Regency, Dr. Ir. H. A. Tisna Umaran, M.P., and invited guests.
President Director of PT Damar Gayatri Jaya, Toto Winata in his speech revealed, the construction of the SPF egg production facility has a mission to become a reliable customer partner in the long term, to support animal and human health. Through the provision of high-quality products, supported by knowledge, a professional team, strict biosecurity, and reliable infrastructure so that DGJ is able to provide added value to all stakeholders.
Director of Animal Health (Dirkeswan), Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, Nuryani Zainuddin gave a very high appreciation for Medion's initiative to build an SPF egg production facility. Currently, the need for SPF eggs is very high in Indonesia. "Medion is a large company that deserves appreciation. Medion develops its business by utilizing local capacity in accordance with President Jokowi's instructions to implement the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) value on goods/services," explained Nuryani. She hopes that DGJ will not only provide SPF eggs for the private sector, but also collaborate with the government, especially Dirkeswan to support research such as poultry diseases, disease detection, virus development, and so on.
To realize a quality SPF egg production facility, Medion built an SPF egg production facility and an international standard testing laboratory in consultation with experts from the Royal Gezondheidsdienst voor Dieren Animal Health Netherlands. This facility will be built starting in September 2022 and is targeted for completion in January 2024. There are 6 facilities owned by DGJ in producing SPF eggs.
First, SPF chicken cage facilities. Second, egg hatching facilities using qualified egg incubators and placed in the same building as the cages. Third, feed and water processing facilities that are guaranteed to be sterile and free of Salmonella sp. and E. Coli bacteria. Fourth, handling and storage facilities. Fifth, distribution facilities using vehicles that implement a cold chain system. Sixth, liquid waste processing facilities to process waste into water that is suitable and in accordance with applicable requirements.
Head of the West Java Province Food Security and Livestock Service, M Arifin Soedjayana revealed that the West Java government supports companies and investors to increase investment in the Banjaran-Bandung area. The same support was also given by the Head of the Bandung Regency Agriculture Service, A. Tisna Umaran. He welcomed the selection of Banjaran as the location for the production of disease-free chicken eggs.
It is hoped that the presence of DGJ will be a positive support for the development of poultry health in Indonesia and the world. As well as being a motivation to continue to conduct innovative and holistic research so that it can provide added value. At the regional level, it is expected to contribute to building the regional economy and increasing cooperation, especially for the Banjaran area, Bandung Regency.
