Entering the end of the year, Indonesia is being hit by the El Nino phenomenon which has a significant impact where Indonesia is experiencing drought. Bad weather can stress livestock, including cattle. As a result, the cow loses weight and milk production decreases. If this situation continues, breeders will incur losses.
Realizing the importance of insight into this phenomenon, Medion hosted an online education program on Saturday, November 18th, 2023 entitled “Strategy to Overcome the Impact of El Nino on Livestock”. Attended by 132 participants from various backgrounds, such as veterinarians, veterinary medicine, and other related institutions. Presenting two experts as speakers, namely drh. Asep Rahmat Khaerudin, M.Pt., Chairman of the Indonesian Cattle Veterinarian Association (IDHSI) and apt. Retnoningtyas, S. Farm, Product Management Medion.
A strategy to overcome El Niño is to maintain the livestock environment within a normal temperature range. The ideal temperature for cattle is around 20-21°C. Next, make sure your cattle has enough drinking water so they don’t become dehydrated. Then, ensure the availability of enough drinking water so that the livestock does not become dehydrated. Furthermore, prepare alternative feed such as using processed grass or natural feed as feed reserves to deal with drought periods. The quality and quantity of feed also needs to be improved through nutrient-rich feeding. Finally, manage cattle maintenance well, such as paying attention to the cleanliness of the cage, adequate ventilation, protection from direct sunlight, checking and monitoring health conditions and vaccinating.
Through this activity, farmers are expected to collect information related to the impact of El Nino and strategies in anticipating its impact on livestock. In addition, Medion also has products that have guaranteed quality that have faced problems due to El Nino in livestock, such as nutrition and supplements.
